The College of Teachers exists for the advancement of higher standards in teaching and education. This mission has been constant since The College's Victorian founders entrusted its members with the duty of:
"Promoting sound learning and advancing the interests of education by affording facilities to the teacher for the acquiring of a sound knowledge of their profession"
The College of Teachers aims to be at the forefront of continuing professional development and promotes the teaching profession. We are a democratic organisation. The College extends its membership to individuals and institutions that share the aim of advancing the interests of education. The aim of this module is to provide participants with opportunities to reflect critically and systematically on this particular context of practice. The module seeks to enable participants to interrogate their understanding of standards and values in relation to professionalism in the area of mentoring and coaching at all levels and to develop skills in supporting the development of other members of the profession set against the backdrop of published professional standards.
Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators course is an innovative new course which trains students to identify, assess and teach children with the seven learning difficulties most commonly encountered in mainstream schools.
In a global world where we live, learn and work with others from very different communication and cultural backgrounds there is an urgent need for us to become more aware of the issues that affect our interactions. Classrooms and workplaces only function if communication is effective but only 25 % of our face-to-face exchanges are successful. In a world where we are constantly striving to improve performance this area of knowledge and practice can not be ignored. Flexible on-line courses with tutor and peer support are the answer where time and economic resources are precious. Action research is both a way of solving a problem with what you do and the process by which you find the solution. An action researcher wants a solution. The process is an attempt to gain a better understanding of what you do.
Action research did not start in education. Once its possibilities became clear, it was applied to education some thirty years later, largely as a result of a work by Lawrence Stenhouse in 1975.
Today, individuals still undertake action research as a means of developing their action and their research. By researching their action, they can action their research.

In the UK, leadership is firmly on the NHS (National Health Service) agenda and training programmes for doctors.
"It is not enough for a clinician to act as a practitioner in their own discipline. They must act as partners to their colleagues, accepting shared accountability for the service provided to their patients. They are also expected to offer leadership and to work with others to change systems when it is necessary for the benefit of patients." Such an agenda is typical, worldwide. This Strategic Leadership Programme is designed to help you learn how to: - create strategy
- plan
- build morale
- develop administrative expertise
- form and maintain effective relationships
- create alliances
- build trust.
This programme will help you to develop these skills to make you more effective in your role and will help you to develop those people who report to you and without whom you cannot succeed.
