Christine Gilbert
Christine Gilbert became Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Schools in 2006 and Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Education, Children’s Services and Skills with the creation of the new Ofsted in 2007. This role includes advising the Secretary of State and making executive decisions. The Chief Inspector also has sole responsibility for inspection judgements. Christine’s impact in this role has been extremely beneficial.
Prior to this, she was Chief Executive of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. She joined Tower Hamlets in April 1997 as Corporate Director (Education), having previously been Director of Education in the London Borough of Harrow for five years. Her earlier career was in teaching, where she spent 18 years in comprehensive schools, eight of them as headteacher of Whitmore High School in Harrow.
She was awarded a CBE in the 2006 New Year Honours List for services to education and local government.
