Honorary Fellow 2006 - Mike Baker
Mike Baker is Education Correspondent for BBC News. He presents and reports news and current affairs for both television and radio.
In a 25-year career at the BBC Mike has presented several programme series, including: Education Matters, NewsTalk and Clean Slate. He has written several books, including: 'A Parents guide to the new curriculum' (1992) and 'Who rules our schools' (1994).
He was Visiting Professor at the Institute of Education, University of London (1998-2000). He has also been: Reuters Fellow, Green College, Oxford (1993) and Journalism Fellow, University of Michigan (1999).
Educated at state schools, he is a graduate of Cambridge University, where he read English. In 2005 he completed an MA in History at Kingston University. Mike joined the BBC as a graduate trainee in 1980. He spent eight years as a Political Correspondent at Westminster. He became Education Correspondent in 1989.
Married with two daughters, Mike has also been parent-governer at his children's schools, spending four years as Vice-Chair of Governors.
