Post-nominals of The College of Teachers
Candidates who achieve a qualification from The College of Teachers of the Associateship and above are entitled to wear the prescribed academic dress for the award.
The qualification a candidate receives is for life, but candidates may only use the post-nominals as long as they:
- remain a Member or Associate Member of The College in good standing
- have paid their Membership fees
- subscribe to the Code of Professional Practice and Continuing Professional Development.
There are two types of post-nominals:
1. For Members of The College of Teachers. The different types of Individual Membership are based on your level of professional experience and your education and teaching qualifications.
Qualification | Post-nominal |
| Individuals who hold high academic qualifications or have made a significant contribution to educational literature or to educational management at a senior level. | FCollT |
| Individuals who are qualified teachers either in the UK or elsewhere. | MCollT |
| Individuals who are involved in education but are not qualified teachers, for example, school bursars or classroom assistants. | AMCollT |
2. Post-nominals for candidates who have achieved a qualification from The College of Teachers.

A candidate must be a Member of The College before they may bear post-nominals. A candidate would then be able to list their qualification and then Membership post-nominals respectively, e.g. ACOT MCollT or LCOT AMCollT
Past students who have achieved qualifications under the name The College of Preceptors retain the post-nominals they achieved and these do not change to the new format.
