The SENCo course is a comprehensive training for teachers and teaching assistants in the five most common specific learning difficulties. Its interactive and practical formats ensure learning is optimum for both our students and their future pupils.

Course outline

The SENCo course is an online course studied at home at your own pace. 

We aim to provide a supportive and professional environment to promote best practice in all aspects of special needs teaching. The course covers identification and assessment of learning difficulties, effective communication, lesson planning and evaluation, monitoring progress, appraisal and professional report writing.

Students will complete an assignment each term and be expected to pass an end of year examination in order to qualify for The SENCo course.

Katina Offord Course Director
Katina has eighteen years' experience teaching children with specific learning difficulties and fourteen years as SENCo.  She enjoys the challenge of creating novel ways in which to present information to suit the individual needs of her students and has developed tried and tested methods for success. Katina believes that an enthusiastic and positive approach which builds on strengths and encourages independence is the key to progress. She aims to provide a supportive yet challenging environment so that each student reaches their potential. Katina is currently studying for a Master’s degree in psychology.

Geraldine Jones Senior Tutor
Geraldine is a Dyslexia Therapist and has been teaching adults and children for sixteen years. She is trained as a specialist in teaching reading and mathematics. She is currently Learning Support Tutor and SENCo teaching primary and secondary pupils. Geraldine is committed to discovering how individual pupils learn and employing the appropriate multi-sensory methods to remediate their difficulties. Her skills include building a pupil’s self esteem through a varied, practical and fun approach to learning.

Course accreditation

This course is unique in that it leads to an Associateship (equivalent to NQF level 5) from The College of Teachers upon successful completion.
