Who is this for?
School administrators. This is a series of modules designed to help school administrators to self-evaluate the work that they do in school.
Outcomes
This course is designed to boost your confidence working in an educational setting. It is not intended to develop secretarial skills; we assume that you have these already. It is, instead, designed to enable you to apply your skills to the school environment.
This course will enhance your knowledge and understanding of your own educational setting and put this into a broader educational framework.
Course objectives
As a result of this course you will be able to:
- Identify the values promoted by your school and apply these values to your work.
- Ensure that written and verbal communications with parents are effective and reflect the values promoted by the school.
- Follow the school procedures for child protection.
- Be aware of the meaning of restraint and how it applies to the school.
- Recognise the range of special needs and some of the characteristics of more common conditions.
- Recognise the link between pupils’ behaviour and the promotion of learning.
- Identify the values that are shared in teamwork.
- State the meaning of some relevant acronyms and abbreviations.
- Be aware of the educational websites that are particularly relevant to your role and the work of the school.
- Identify the limits of first aid and procedures that need to be followed in the event of a child requiring medical attention.
- Recognise the tell-tale signs of bullying.
- Develop your telephone skills.
