Governance
The College of Teachers is run by Members for Members and is mainly governed by a structure of formal committees. A committee overview is outlined below.
Council
Council is made up of 48 seats. Most members are elected to the Council and serve a four-year term. Some members are appointed to the Council in order to ensure that the Council retains the broad spectrum of expertise required to support The College's work. Council members are also trustees of The College.
The Council meets eight times a year for formal meetings, including two general meetings which usually take place on the weekend during the first week of January and July.
The Council is responsible for strategy, finance and academic provision and is supported in these duties by four committees as follows;
The Executive Committee
The Committee meets four times a year and acts on behalf of the Council as a coordinating, executive, advisory and general purposes committee, which makes recommendations to the Council as appropriate and co-ordinate the work of the other Committees. The Executive Committee is chaired by the President.

The Awards Committee
This Committee supervises the academic work of The College and advises The College on matters related to the continued professional development of teachers and others who work in education. Its members are drawn from inside and outside The College and it is chaired by the Dean. The Awards Committee meets every six weeks.

The Publications Committee
This committee discuss all of The College's publications such as: Education Today, The College Newsletter and any other formal publications on behalf of the Council. The Committee makes recommendations on its publications policy to the Council or the Executive Committee. It appoints to and manages the work of the editorial board. It also oversees publicity and marketing. The Publications Committee is chaired by an appointed council member and meets four times a year.

The Professional Committee
This Committee advises the Council on its position on all educational matters. It represents the views of the Members of The College on issues of the day that have an impact on the generic role of teachers and others who work in education. The Professional Committee meets twice a year and virtually as required.
