The College of Teachers held its Annual Awards Ceremony on 18 May 2010 in the presence of His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, K.G., K.T., who is an Honorary Member of The College of Teachers. The event took place at Institute of Education, University of London.
This prestigious event takes place annually to celebrate the achievements of individuals who work in education. Each year The College confers several Honorary Awards on notable figures in education and this year is no exception. Dr Johnny Ball, Sir Michael Barber, Dr Yvonne Burne, Ms Rebecca Edwards (in absentia), Professor Michael Reiss, Lady Elizabeth Vallance, Mr Chris Waterman, Professor Mick Waters (in absentia) and Mr Alan Tuckett (awarded in absentia in 2009) received their awards on 18 May.
Sir Michael Barber delivered The College of Teacher’s Biennial Lecture entitled ‘The prospects for global education reform’ followed by questions from the audience. In addition, several children from Chartered London Teacher initiative school, Aldersbrook Primary, gave a dance performance. The event was followed by a late afternoon reception providing an opportunity for guests to mingle and network.
The College of Teachers is a professional educational institute for teachers. We support individuals who work in the teaching profession through a framework of Membership and qualifications. The College’s internationally-recognised qualifications are awarded under our Royal Charter.
