The College of Teachers and Teacher Learning Academy join forces
The College of Teachers, holder of the Royal Charter for teachers’ professional qualifications, has joined the General
Teaching Council for England to support the national development of the Teacher Learning Academy.
More than 17,000 teachers are already using the TLA’s proven approach to professional learning; nearly 6,000 have so far completed their professional enquiry and submitted their work for recognition at one of its four stages.
The strategic partnership came as the TLA opened participation to all registered teachers from 8 June.
Teachers taking part will also be able to share their findings online and learn from other teachers in a secure virtual community hosted by TLA logistics partner Cambridge Education. There is a modest enrolment fee to take part in the TLA and schools can offset their costs by leading TLA development locally.
Independent evaluation by the National Foundation for Education Research has found that taking part in the TLA has sustained benefits for pupil learning and achievement and for teachers’ own practice. The College of Teachers supports the rigour and standards of the TLA and, through its Royal Charter, offers validation to the professional recognition achieved by participants.
“This partnership will bring very real benefits to teachers and teaching; we’re delighted to be adding The College of Teachers’ assurance of standards and quality to the recognition for teachers’ efforts and excellence gained through the Teacher Learning Academy.”
- Sarah Stephens, GTC Director of Policy
“This strategic partnership between two bodies with complementary aims is an exciting and important development. Both have children’s learning and achievement at their heart; working together to support teachers’ professional learning through the growth of the Teacher Learning Academy will bring increased benefits for teachers, schools and pupils alike.”
- Professor Alma Harris, President of The College of Teachers
